Alcatel U3 3G Review- A Basic Smartphone

Smartphones come in all shapes and sizes and in all different price ranges but cheap smartphones are becoming more popular due to their affordability among people on a budget. The Alcatel U3 3G is a basic smartphone that has some decent features but it might not be the right phone for you. In this Alcatel U3 3G Review I will be talking about the Alcatel U3 3G and how it works so you can decide if it is the right phone for you or not.

What Is The Alcatel U3 3G? Alcatel U3 3G

The Alcatel U3 3G is a basic smartphone with a 4.0 inch display and many other features. It has a simple but nice looking design and it is very lightweight. The phone has all the features on it a smartphone usually has like calls, texts, web browsing, an app store, multimedia apps and much more.

It is quite basic in the way that the hardware is cheap and it can’t handle anything heavy or demanding meaning this limits what you can do on the phone. Although you can do all the tasks you can do on other smartphones you need to be careful what you do on the Alcatel U3 3G as anything like gaming, video editing and a lot of web browsing will cause the phone to freeze and crash a lot.

Therefore the phone is better for basic tasks like calls, texts and light web browsing. The Alcatel U3 3G is a 3G smartphone meaning you won’t be able to use it if you live in a country where 3G is switched off in the future. If that happens you will have to upgrade and get another smartphone because there is no support for 4G, 4GX or 5G on the Alcatel U3 3G.

Daily Tasks On The Alcatel U3 3G

Daily tasks on the Alcatel U3 3G are easy to do depending on what you want to do. Calls are easy to make and call quality is quite decent.  Sending texts messages is easy and there are no problems receiving text messages either. You can browse the web on the Alcatel U3 3G and it works fine but you have to be careful how much you do.

This is due to the cheap hardware the phone has which causes bad performance of the phone and too much web browsing can cause the phone to freeze and crash. But light web browsing works fine most of the time without any issues. If you want to download apps you can do so through the app store but many apps are slow on the phone due to how basic it is and the hardware limitations of the phone.

Gaming, watching videos and other related tasks are also possible on the Alcatel U3 3G but are best kept to a minimum or avoided altogether as the phone can’t handle gaming too well and can be slow with watching videos to. Doing other tasks like using the clock, calendar, calculator and other tasks like this are easy, quick and work fine as these apps are not demanding and run smoothly.

As you can see daily tasks on the Alcatel U3 3G can be painful depending on what you want to do. It’s best for basic tasks like calls, texts and light web browsing but if you want to do heavy tasks like gaming, watching videos and a lot of web browsing you will have a lot of issues and are better off looking at other options.

If you decide the Alcatel U3 3G is not for you there are many options out there that you can consider. As alternative budget smartphones you could consider phones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5 which are older phones but are both great, cheap and much better than the Alcatel U3 3G. If you would like to know more about these phone I have full reviews of both of them on this website.

Battery Life & Multimedia Alcatel U3 3G Box

Battery life on the Alcatel U3 3G is not too bad but it could be better. It will last a few hours on one charge depending on what you are doing and how you use the phone. If you are just using it for calls, texts and light web browsing should get through the day on one charge but you will need to charge the phone at the end of the day.

But if you are doing a lot of web browsing and other heavy tasks the battery will drain fast and you will have to charge the phone a lot sooner. On standby mode the battery will last a few days if you don’t use the phone or charge it. There is a camera on the Alcatel U3 3G and it takes decent photos and it has decent quality.

The camera could be a lot better but it’s ok for taking the occasional photo or video. But if you are going to be taking a lot of photos and videos you will need a better smartphone with a much better camera. Aside from the camera the phone also has an image gallery, music player and the ability to watch videos you have on the phone through the image gallery. The Alcatel U3 3G has 512MB RAM and 8GB internal storage that is expandable up to 32GB using a Micro SD card.

Internet & Connectivity

The Alcatel U3 3G has a web browser and can connect to the internal via WiFi or mobile data. It also has the ability to work as a WiFi hotspot using it’s mobile data to allow other devices to connect to the internet via WiFi using it’s data. There are 2 web browsers on the phone which are the basic Android web browser and Google Chrome which are both preinstalled on the phone.

The Alcatel U3 3G also has other web related apps on the phone like Facebook Lite, Hangouts, YouTube and much more that are also preinstalled. The phone also has an app store which is the Google Play Store that allows you download and run many apps on the phone. But you need to be careful which apps you download as many apps will have issues running on the phone due to it’s hardware limitations so it’s best to avoid any heavy and demanding apps.

As for connectivity the Alcatel U3 3G has Bluetooth for transferring files between other Bluetooth devices and it works fine. Aside from this the phone also has a flashlight, headphone jack and the ability to use the phone with your voice using Google like on most smartphones. But there is no FM radio or other connectivity features on the phone which is a shame.

With the internet and connectivity features that are available on the phone you will be able to get most web related tasks done but you should avoid the use of heavy tasks and apps. Therefore if you need to run demanding apps, play a lot of games or do a lot of web browsing you will have a lot of trouble doing this on the phone and if you get this smartphone you will have to stick to doing basic and less demanding tasks most of the time.

Price Of The Alcatel U3 3G

The Alcatel U3 3G is a cheap and affordable smartphone. I got mine from an electrical store for $29 but it could cost a bit more depending on where you buy the phone and if it is on sale or not. It is available in some post offices and electrical stores as well as online on websites like eBay, Amazon and Kogan.

Is The Alcatel U3 3G For Me?

I recommend the Alcatel U3 3G to anyone who is looking for a smartphone to do basic tasks like calls, texts and light web browsing. I also recommend the Alcatel U3 3G to anyone who really needs a smartphone and doesn’t have much money to spend on a smartphone.

I don’t recommend the Alcatel U3 3G to anyone who wants to do heavy tasks like gaming, running demanding apps and doing a lot of web browsing as these tasks are not easy to do on the phone due to it’s hardware limitations. I also don’t recommend the Alcatel U3 3G to anyone who has more money to spend on a smartphone as there are much better options out there even with budget smartphones for a similar price to the Alcatel U3 3G.
